What motivates someone to refine their personal style? To update their wardrobe and add a touch of sophistication. I find it especially intriguing when men opt to enhance their style. It shows they've evaluated their existing clothing and concluded, "It's time for an upgrade." Men often elevate their style for various reasons, including personal expression, confidence, and professional advancement. A polished appearance can create a positive first impression, enhance self-esteem, and help individuals feel more comfortable in social situations. Additionally, trends and cultural influences can inspire men to update their wardrobe, reflecting their personality or aspirations.
This is apparent with DJ iSizzle and his recent fashion selections. He has embarked on a style transformation, which we will get into. DJ iSizzle, whose real name is Ethan Michaels, is a Seattle-based disc jockey, music producer, and emcee (MC) with over a decade of experience, particularly renowned for his expertise in creating high-energy and personalized wedding celebrations across the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. DJ iSizzle discovered his passion for DJing at the age of 10 and has since developed a unique style of seamlessly blending diverse musical genres to create unforgettable experiences. His commitment to his craft intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he honed his skills and expanded his knowledge of music and events. He launched his DJ company, DJ iSizzle, after the pandemic, quickly building a clientele that includes both individual couples and notable brands like Amazon, Google, and Ted Baker London.

In terms of fashion, we appreciate the daring style choices DJ iSizzle has taken, and it’s catching people's attention. DJ i Sizzle realizes that fashion is an integral part of his performance. He appears fashionably fantastic and well-coordinated with his sharp suits and fedora hats. It's never overly formal, making it a perfect example of casual chic while remaining current. Gemma Magazine has interviewed DJ iSizzle before, but this time the focus is solely on his style evolution! So let's dive in!
What inspired you to elevate your fashion style? Were there specific people, cultures, or experiences that influenced your choices?
Fashion has always been tied to identity for me. Early on, I was so focused on the music and the crowd that I didn’t think about my look. As I grew, I realized fashion is part of the performance, it’s another layer of energy. The timeless elegance of Frank Sinatra, the boldness and precision of Michael Jackson, and the charisma of Bruno Mars inspired me. All three taught me that your style can be as memorable as your sound. My wife, Pepsee, has also been a significant influence. She encourages me to show up as the best version of myself and reminds me that confidence and presence matter.

Can you describe how your fashion style has evolved since you started your career as a DJ?
At first, I was all about being comfortable: hoodies, sneakers, the basics. Over time, I realized that if I wanted to command the room as a DJ and MC, I had to look the part. I went from just “wearing what worked” to intentionally crafting my style. This year, I even hired a fashion consultant to refine my look, keeping what worked and upgrading what didn’t. My style has shifted from casual to classy, with a modern edge that still feels authentic to me.
Do you have a signature style or a go-to outfit when performing? What does it say about you as an artist?
Yes, the fedora. It has become my symbol of greatness. Every time I put it on, I channel the same energy I felt seeing Sinatra, MJ, and Bruno Mars rock their signature looks. The fedora also carries a rich history. It’s been a staple in classic movies, worn by icons like Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. It represents timeless cool, strength, and charisma. My go-to outfit is a tailored jacket, a variety of colorful dress shoes, and that fedora. I choose my shoes to match the vibe of the event—bold colors for high-energy parties, more refined tones for weddings—letting me express personality and versatility. Overall, it says I’m serious about the art but also here to have fun, connect, and keep the dance floor alive.
How do you see the relationship between your music and your fashion choices? Do you think one influences the other?
They are inseparable. When I’m mixing a set, I’m creating a vibe, and fashion does the same thing visually. If my outfit feels sleek and polished, my set usually reflects that sharpness. If I go bold with my look, I tend to push the boundaries in the mix. Music influences the style, and the style pushes the music further.
Can you walk us through your process when selecting an outfit for a show? Is it spontaneous or planned out?
It’s usually planned with a touch of spontaneity. I’ll map out the show, the vibe of the venue, and the type of crowd. Then I’ll pick pieces that align. For a wedding, I’ll go polished but approachable. If it’s a school glow party, I’ll lean into bold colors and movement-friendly fits. My shoes are a key part of this—they help set the tone for the event, whether bold and playful or classic and refined. The finishing touch, the fedora, is always non-negotiable.
How have your fans reacted to your evolving fashion sense? Have you noticed any changes in their engagement with your music?
The response has been excellent. People come up after shows, not only talking about the music but also about the fit. It’s created a stronger connection—they see me not just as someone behind the booth but as a whole artist. I’ve noticed people are quicker to take photos with me, tag me on social, and even ask where I get my outfits. That’s a whole new level of engagement.
What challenges have you faced in balancing music and fashion, especially in a fast-paced industry?
The biggest challenge is time. Between rehearsals, gigs, and running the business, fashion used to feel like an afterthought. Now that I’ve assembled a team, including my fashion consultant, it’s easier to stay consistent. The balance is making sure my style supports the music and doesn’t distract from it.
Are there any fashion designers or fashion icons that you look up to? How have they influenced your approach to fashion?
I’m a huge fan of icons who made fashion part of their identity: Frank Sinatra with his suits, Michael Jackson with his military jackets and gloves, Bruno Mars with his effortless cool. They taught me that style isn’t just clothing, it’s a performance. I also draw a lot of inspiration from Ted Baker London. I had the opportunity to DJ a fashion event for their store, and seeing their mix of sharp tailoring with bold, playful details showed me how fashion can be both refined and fun.
"When I’m mixing a set, I’m creating a vibe, and fashion does the same thing visually. If my outfit feels sleek and polished, my set usually reflects that sharpness. If I go bold with my look, I tend to push the boundaries in the mix. Music influences the style, and the style pushes the music further. "(DJ iSizzle)
Do you believe that fashion can be a statement in the music industry? How do you use your style to convey a message?
Absolutely. Fashion is a visual beat to the music you’re creating. My style says professionalism, timelessness, and fun. The fedora is my statement piece. Beyond being part of my brand, it connects me to a tradition of classic entertainers and film legends who used the fedora to signal presence and confidence. When I wear it, it’s my way of saying to the crowd, “This is going to be a moment you’ll never forget.”
What advice would you give to aspiring DJs looking to elevate their fashion style while pursuing their music career?
Don’t copy, create. Find inspiration, yes, but make sure your style reflects you. Even the smallest signature piece, like a hat or jacket, can set you apart. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Hiring a fashion consultant was one of the best decisions I made. Your look should enhance your music, not overshadow it. Most importantly, wear your style with confidence and consistency, because people remember both.
