Feeling Fashion with Stitched Emxtixns ~ An Urban Streetwear Brand

Stitched Emxtixns is a trendy urban streetwear brand based in Queens, NY, founded by Damien Curvey, the Head Designer. Damien's enthusiasm for fashion originates from his passion for basketball and sneakers. As he grew older, his appreciation for unique and high-quality fabrics increased significantly. This passion led Damien to create his own streetwear brand. However, Stitched Emxtixns is about more than just appearances.

The brand was created with the concept of navigating personal challenges and the emotional highs and lows that one might encounter. They offer more than just a clothing line; they embody a lifestyle. Stitched Emxtixns is a family-friendly urban designer brand that resonates with everyone. People of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and fashion tastes are embracing this emerging trend. "Just because you're facing challenges doesn't mean you have to stop living or being stylish!" said Stitched Emxtixns.

Luckily, I met the founder, Damien, at the Lumiere Runway Show in Culver City, CA, during LAFW on the red carpet. He is kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about his brand. Stitched Emxtixns put on an exceptional show with incredible energy. Damien agreed to a more formal interview, so let's get started.

What motivated you to choose a career in fashion design?

It all began with a pair of sneakers. I was fascinated by sneakers and their significant influence on an entire outfit. This passion evolved into designing complete outfits to match the vibe. Once I realized I could create anything to complement any colorway, it transcended fashion—it became a purpose.

How would you describe your brand?

I would characterize the brand as "Urban Sexy." The "Urban" aspect is linked to streetwear, allowing you to pair sneakers with a sweatsuit or Timberland boots with cargo pants. The "Sexy" element involves elevating the look; for instance, women can add heels to the streetwear style to create a distinct vibe.

Could you describe your creative process?

I try to craft a look based on my emotions. For instance, if I plan to attend a basketball game, I might design my own basketball warm-up suit. Rugby was a big part of my youth, and I loved the style, so I created my own. The advantage of being a designer is the freedom to create whatever you desire and express endless creativity.

How do you keep up with fashion trends while preserving your unique style?

I stay connected—observing what's trending in the streets, on social media, and on runways.

This applies to both streetwear and luxury fashion, but I never let it dictate my vision. I merge my vision with vibrant colors and a vintage streetwear vibe, ensuring each piece feels current yet retains my personal touch. Stitched EMXTIXNS

Why did you establish a fashion brand centered on emotions?

Too many brands focus solely on appearance. I wanted something deeper—something that communicates for you before you even speak. Your clothing can reflect your mood or convey a message. That’s the power of fashion.

What materials do you prefer to work with and why?

I prefer high-quality fabrics—cotton, leather, and blended textiles that feel great and are durable. If I’m creating a piece that represents an emotion, it needs to feel appropriate too—soft when it’s vulnerable, tough when it’s bold.

Who are your biggest influences in the fashion industry?

Honestly, my biggest influence comes from the era I grew up in! There were so many iconic brands to choose from, the hip hop culture, and some of the best sneakers ever released. On the business side, definitely Dapper Dan, Virgil, and even Kool Kiy.

How do you incorporate sustainability into your designs?

I focus on intentional releases—avoiding mass production and waste. I want people to truly connect with the pieces they purchase, not just wear them once and discard them. Quality, longevity, and stylish design are my approaches to sustainability.

In terms of specific designers, who do you admire?

To be honest, I don't really admire anyone in particular. It's not because I don't respect them, but rather because I haven't studied anyone closely enough. However, I do have great respect for everyone's journey. Specifically, I admire people like Dapper Dan, Virgil, and a local guy named Cool Kai. There are also people I knew from school who started their own brand, Godspeed, which has become quite successful. I respect all of them, their journeys, their hard work, and determination. I'm just hoping that my own efforts and dedication will shine as theirs have.

What are some of the greatest aspects of working in fashion?

Well, what I love most about fashion is that I'm still in the learning phase. I feel like I'm new to this world. I've been involved in fashion shows for about two years, which isn't a lot, but it has been significant for me. The knowledge I've gained and the people I've met have been incredible experiences.

The next point is actually twofold: you can receive a lot of love, respect, and congratulations for your hard work because people appreciate what they've seen, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're about to achieve massive success. It simply means you need to work even harder because now there's an expectation set for you. The next time those people see you, you'll have to meet that expectation. For some, this is beneficial, as they thrive under pressure. Personally, I enjoy the pressure of a fashion show. It's fun for me. I like that environment, working with the models, getting to know them, and understanding which outfit suits them best.

What challenges have you encountered in the fashion industry, and how did you overcome them?

Breaking in without major connections is extremely challenging. It’s daunting to feel that your designs can compete with larger brands. Also, seeing others replicate styles similar to mine. But I persist—through pop-ups, shows, and collaborations. I make enough noise until people take notice. Getting figures like DJ Envy, Offset, and Juelz Santana to support the brand was a confirmation that I’m heading in the right direction.

How do you balance creativity with the business side of fashion?

It’s challenging because I’m always eager to create something new. Once I’ve worn a particular style, I’m ready to move on to the next. I’m still learning to balance this. I’m learning to allow a product to exist in the world and spread. The last thing you want is for one idea to overshadow another.

What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?

Start with your why. Don’t design to blend in—create to stand out. Keep honing your craft, tell your story, and remember: consistency will take you where talent alone can’t.
