Bjorn van den Berg is known for his luxurious apparel, jewelry, and headpieces. Personally, we have followed his career from the beginning and it just gets better and more ornate. For SS 2022, Gold Rush is a new jewelry collection from Bjorn, who is such a talented designer. What does GOLD RUSH reveal? With the details of the ancient myths of lost treasures as a source of inspiration, Designer Bjorn van den Berg translated gold combined with black and brown crystals. Then Bjorn fused warm topaz highlights into an exclusive and bespoke range of jewelry and couture designs to celebrate the upcoming summer season. He presents his new collection: GOLD RUSH. This is Bjorn's most exclusive collection ever! Let's talk summer and gorgeous jewelry designs!
The GOLD RUSH collection reveals Bjorn's craftmanship in the authentic influences and patterns with a modern art deco look and nuances combined with high-end, luxurious materials and new 3D- techniques. The collection shows that he has grown as an individual and designer and his passion for details is infinite.
INSPIRATION
For this collection, Bjorn was inspired by beautiful jewelry of the past. The color palette is gorgeous and contains a warm gold combined with black, brown, and fading topaz crystal tones. The colors translate through countless handset crystals. Bjorn said, "We all know the beautiful and mysterious sceneries around the old myths and the lost treasures of the past, captured in documentaries. It is our interpretation that brings the collection to life."
Bjorn also found inspiration in Cleopatra and the burial chambers of the Egyptians. Archeologists often discover these hidden treasure troves. The discovery of such a treasure is a unique moment. Some might even say it gives the feeling of a rush. The name of this elegant collection, GOLD RUSH comes from this concept. With Bjorn's expertise and vision of design, Bjorn knows how to turn the magic of these unique myths into a modern translation. He has used iconic elements in new designs, and in combination, this forms an exciting mix and detailed result.
COLLECTION
The collection consists of a range of prêt-à-porter, limited editions in combination with spectacular couture items: these are the three elements that serve as the base for the Gold Rush collection. In total, the collection contains 21 pieces. It includes a beautiful range of earrings, pendants, bracelets, and rings. According to Bjorn, "The perfect match for every occasion and outfit." The prêt-à-porter collection will be available in the online boutique and through exclusive selling points. The limited editions are authentic collector items. It consists of a stunning waist belt, pendant, bracelet, large earrings, and all handset with black and brown crystals in various shapes and sizes. The pieces are highlighted with warm topaz elements and a fine layer of pure 24k gold.
"Because there are so many techniques, I like to play with the contrast of different details altogether and bring the design to life. It also gives an extra rich outlook to the jewelry." (Bjorn van den Berg)
Bjorn is no stranger to extravagant designs and style. He designed an exclusive range of detailed couture pieces for this collection:
A signature corset
A set of arm cuffs
A crystal wig with countless details and beautiful structures
The jewelry is handmade and produced in limited numbers in an atelier in Europe.
Signature Corset: A showstopper of the collection. It is hand-trimmed with crystals and consists of several ornaments that are finished with a layer of 24k gold. Bjorn selected the crystals by hand for this spectacular piece, and the layered technique provides a beautiful contrast. The unique mix of materials comes together nicely in the countless details.
Crystal Wig: To complete the collection, Bjorn created a crystal wig. It would have been a perfect fit for Cleopatra. He used several new techniques to create a spectacular 3D effect. More than 7,500 small crystals in warm topaz have been used in different lengths. The layering of the crystals creates a beautiful monogram effect. To finish the wig, ornaments were strategically placed on top and on both sides, set and embellishes with brown and black crystals in various sizes, finished with a fine layer of 24k gold.
We chatted with Bjorn on a sunny and beautiful day in L.A. about his new collection. He's a true artist and designer who is always eager to learn and experiment with new ideas. It's his vision and it's strong.
How would you describe the collection? Bold, regal, and rich
Why did you decide to go with just jewelry and accessories for the Gold Rush? Normally I'm more specialized in accessories and jewelry because you can always style them in a different way during the whole year. They are suitable for every occasion: casual, sophisticated, or chic.
The colors gold, black, and brown are gorgeous together. Were you going for a more earthy/ancient vibe? Yes, I was. I went with natural-toned colors without a pop of color. Also in this collection, I toned the use of crystal stones down and made more place for the 3D technique and the plain gold so you got a real regal look and feel.
Where do you get your love of details from? Because there are so many techniques, I like to play with the contrast of different details altogether and bring the design to life. It also gives an extra rich outlook to the jewelry.
Will there be an apparel Gold Rush collection? No, I'm more staying with the jewelry; the accessories and couture pieces are more inspired by the celebrity scene.
What is up next for Bjorn van den Berg? So many things…. I'm gonna launch an essential collection of small bracelets, a more casual and daily wear aesthetic. It will also be more affordable. Next to that, I'm working on the sketches for my new couture collection ( this collection is more focused on the music & film industry and will not have a commercial part of accessories), but …. I'm also working at the same time on the sketches for my fall and festive collection but I will not reveal my direction. Therefore always stay tuned.
